Castleton is a picturesque and friendly New England town surrounded by hills and lakes. A variety of places of interest and activities are accessible within an hour's drive from Castleton's Applewood Manor B&B.

Killington, Pico and Okemo offer both winter and summer outdoor activities and interesting night life. For walking enthusiasts, there are local trails and within 20 minutes, access to the Long Trail, a beautiful section of the Appalachian Trail. Summer fly-fishing in local rivers (Castleton, Battenkill) and lakes (Bomoseen, Champlain) and ice fishing in winter are popular pastimes both for visitors and locals. Lake George is 45 minutes away. Horseback-riding is available locally, and every Saturday night in summer, a fun time can be had at the Pond Hill Ranch Rodeo.

Less active leisure time can be spent visiting nearby historical sites such as Fort Ticonderoga and Hubbardton Battefield. Applewood Manor B&B is also an excellent base for serious shoppers with Manchester's and Lake George's designer outlet stores about 45 minutes away. For those interested in art and antiques, galleries and shops welcome your visits to browse or buy. Of course, relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Vermont scenery are popular year-round pastimes.

You don't have to travel far from Applewood Manor B&B to enjoy wonderful restaurants. The Fair Haven Inn has won much acclaim as an excellent place to dine, and the Red Brick Grill in Poultney offers a casual fine dining experience with an eclectic menu appealing to a diverse group of patrons. Rutland offers great restaurants and, in Castleton village, classic American fare is enjoyed at the Birdseye Diner, a fully restored 1940's Silk City diner.
