Castleton is a picturesque New England town in the Lakes Region of Central Vermont. Castleton’s Applewood Manor B & B provides superior lodging for college visitors, and its location makes it a perfect hub to explore all the Central Vermont attractions, such as Calvin Coolidge Homestead, as well as NY’s Lake George area.
Killington, Pico and Okemo resorts are within 45 minutes of Applewood Manor and offer both winter and summer outdoor activities. For hiking enthusiasts, the local trails are lovely and access to the more strenuous Long Trail and Appalachian Trail is close by. If you like to fly-fish, the Castleton river runs through our property, and lake fishing on Bomoseen, Hortonia & Champlain as well as Glen Lake is a popular pastime in summer and winter. (I still don’t get the ice-fishing thing!) In summer, you can rent a boat from the marina on Lake Bomoseen or rent kayaks at Crystal Beach to explore the lake. Horseback-riding is available locally, and every Saturday night in summer, a fun time can be had at the Pond Hill Ranch Rodeo.
For the less active visitor, leisure time can be spent visiting nearby historical sites such as Fort Ticonderoga and Hubbardton Battlefield. The Vermont Marble Museum in nearby Proctor is also worth a visit and some folk just love the unique Wilson Castle! Applewood Manor B&B is also an excellent base for serious shoppers with designer outlet stores in Manchester, VT and Lake George, NY. Lucky for us, you don’t have to travel far from Applewood Manor B&B to enjoy wonderful restaurants such as the Blue Cat Bistro, the Fair Haven Inn, the Trak Inn, and the Lakehouse Pub & Grille on Lake Bomoseen.
